  • 2016 J-Term in India!From the Big Temples to the Silver Screen: The Music of South India (MUS 492/495) January 6-30—Three weeks in South India were spent working with Indian musicians, teachers, and students and visiting historic, religious, and cultural sites in Bengaluru, Chennai, Mamallapuram, Thanjavur, Tiruvaiyaru, & Thillaisthanam. The course was led by Elmhurst Professor Mark Harbold and by our Madras Christian College faculty coordinator, Professor Suri Purushotham. This experience offered rich, profound encounters with South Indian music and the historic, religious, classical, folk, and popular contexts in which this art grew and still flourishes
